As we step into the promising year of 2025, I would like to take this opportunity to reflect on
the strides we have made as an industry, while looking forward to the exciting developments
and initiatives that lie ahead. The airfreight sector has been undergoing a period of rapid
transformation, shaped by evolving market demands, technological advancements, and a
growing focus on sustainability. At this pivotal juncture, it is crucial that we continue to
innovate, collaborate, and invest in the future to ensure our continued success in the global
supply chain.
Collaborative Efforts for a Stronger Future
We are thrilled to announce a significant collaboration that promises to elevate our industry’s
capabilities and workforce. We will be signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with
the Singapore Transport Association (STA) to enhance training initiatives, with a particular
focus on multimodal road transport/trade. By fostering stronger industry ties and investing in
the development of a highly skilled workforce, we aim to create a seamless logistics network
that meets the growing demands of the global marketplace.
A Forward-Looking Approach to TDSB Imports
With the implementation of the Truck Dock Slot Booking (TDSB) system for exports since Aug
2024, we are embarking into the next phase: rolling out a similar system for imports. The
completion of the TDSB for exports is a significant milestone, and it sets the stage for further
advancements in streamlining operations within the airfreight sector. However, the road
ahead requires us to remain proactive, forward-thinking, and open-minded.
Collaboration among stakeholders will be essential as we work together to ensure a smooth
roll-out of the import TDSB system. It is imperative that we stay ahead of the curve, adopting
best practices and utilizing cutting-edge technology to continue improving our processes. The
adoption of technological advancements will not only enhance operational efficiency but also
contribute to reducing costs, increasing transparency, offering real time visibility and
improving the overall customer experience.
Technological Innovation for Operational Excellence
In an era where digital transformation is reshaping industries worldwide, the airfreight sector
must remain agile and embrace technology to stay competitive. The implementation of
automated systems, real-time tracking solutions, and advanced data analytics are just a few
of the ways we are enhancing our industry’s capabilities. The shift towards paperless
environments, the use of AI and machine learning for predictive analytics are just the
beginning. We must continue to explore and leverage these technological innovations, as they
are the key to driving operational excellence in the airfreight industry.
At the heart of this transformation is a commitment to making procedures more efficient,
reducing lead times, and ensuring greater visibility across the supply chain. By adopting a
more data-driven approach and automating manual processes, we are building a more
resilient and responsive airfreight ecosystem.
The SATS BUP Centre
One of the most exciting developments in our sector is the upcoming launch of the SATS BUP
Centre, which is slated to open before the second quarter of 2025. This state-of-the-art facility
is designed to handle export BUPs (Build Up Pallet) and will play a pivotal role in optimizing
the management of export cargo. Spanning 3,000 square meters, the SATS BUP Centre will be
equipped with six counters and weighing scales, including one specifically for 20ft PD units.
The facility also features dedicated entry and exit points, streamlining the movement of cargo
and ensuring smoother operations.
Once the BUPs are accepted at the facility, they will be promptly towed to the airside, ensuring
that the flow of goods is both fast and efficient. The SATS BUP Centre is a testament to the
commitment to improving infrastructure and supporting the continued growth of Singapore
as a global air cargo hub.
The Mindset of the Future
As we move forward into 2025, I urge our community to adopt a collaborative mindset and
remain committed to driving innovation. The challenges ahead are considerable, but they also
present us with unprecedented opportunities. By working together and embracing new
technologies, we can build a more sustainable, efficient, and resilient airfreight sector. Our
collective success will depend on our ability to adapt, evolve, and leverage the strengths of
our industry to meet the needs of an ever-changing global economy.
I am confident that, with continued collaboration and innovation, we will achieve even greater
success in the years to come. Let’s continue our journey to shape the future of airfreight
together.
Thank you.
